I had an unexpected find in the Valle de El Golfo when I stopped at the Bodega Soterana de Carmelo Padrón. The owner told me that he wants to recover the traditional island style of production, following a special model, to make wines that contain a higher percentage of alcohol with a slightly sugary taste.

Trying the selection of white wines that Carmelo had prepared for me, in the last rays of sun in all of Europe, in his favourite spot on his estate, El Matorral, was an unforgettable experience. The location next to Los Lanillos reminded me of when—as a child—I dreamed of a landscape where the sea and the mountains caressed one another, saying goodbye to the day as the sun set in the west.
