It is magical to discover up close what a coffee plantation is like and how it works. For coffee fans, I think it is a compulsory stop. Find out how artisan coffee is made, real coffee, learn to distinguish the different types, how to make them.... It is an estate in the middle of the Agaete Valley and the scenery is paradisiacal. The smell of freshly toasted and ground coffee blends with the scent of orange trees, that magical light coming from behind the mountain, the wonderful palm groves and the singing of the birds.
I think the people who want to keep these customs alive are admirable and I am fascinated by their craft, which requires much dedication and effort. It is not easy to maintain old-fashioned processes amidst all this globalisation but it is highly commendable that Antonio, the owner of Los Castaños Estate, wants to maintain this type of coffee plantation. It is also the only place in all of Europe where coffee is grown!
