There are lots of things to do in the city of Gran Canaria. One of them is spending a morning at the Fundación Canaria, where there are works by many artists from all over the world and, of course, also the Canary Islands. This foundation started out as a family collection with the sole aim of putting contemporary art within reach of everyone in the Canaries. It is wonderful that there are people who want to unselfishly share a little of what they own with others. Yaiza, the director of the foundation, explained each work to us and spoke to us in detail about the artists. The collection on display, “Al Rojo Vivo” (red-hot), revolves around the colour red and is based on the concept of what is red-hot, of today's world where there is so much political conflict, wars, civilian deaths… It is really, really worth spending some time there and also enjoying the place itself: two very well conserved and restored period buildings.
