I had heard of the “salto del pastor” (the shepherd’s leap), known colloquially just as the leap, but I had never tried doing it. It was used by the shepherds in the Canary Islands but, in La Gomera, due to its cliffs and mountains, it is now a tradition.
Juan Carlos Barroso was responsible for teaching us the technique. He explained how he uses the leap for one of his favourite activities: hiking. Thanks to it, he can find his own magical paths that other people can't get to. I tried it and I couldn’t stop doing it. Although I still need a little more practice.
